Making money in the age of internet

adsense

I was having a chat with someone who is by no means a tech-savvy person. She had heard of google adsense and that someone she knew was making about a $100 a month from it. She wondered how she could do it. That got me thinking, why can’t I?

In the airport

Lone Traveler

Once again I’m at an airport. Going home, or coming from home, or something in between. After 4 years in the real world I don’t feel stable yet. Should I be content? Or is it ok that I’m constantly looking for something exciting? A friend of mine says its normal for new graduates to change jobs 2 or 3 times within the first five years of entering the job market. Well, I’ve made that change once and then I came back to it! Who knows maybe risk taking (and not loyalty) is rewarded these days.

It also occurs to me that most of my posts here have been made when I was unhappy about something. Looks like this place is mostly for me to vent, but if that’s the case why don’t I just go buy a notebook and do my “Dear diary” entries in there like everyone else?!

animoto

This past Christmas we went on a trip to London, and had a lot of fun. I’m not one for posting pictures on facebook, or anything but after hearing about animoto I decided to give it a try. It’s a very neat service!

The Job

Watching this video I’m reminded of the day labourers back home. They would all gather in a street corner (usually at a square) and every morning the contractors would come by and pick a few and go to the job site. Looks like the world runs the same way no matter where you are!

Food and the need for a colorscheme

Schwartz's Store Front

Recently, I was in Montreal and one evening we were considering what to eat. Being the guest of honour, I got to pick the food and after a long contemplation I decided that the best bet was to eat something hearty. Something wholesome and very uncomplicated. So we walk over to Schwartz’s Deli, and what a meal! This places and other places like it are why I am addicted to eating!

And the order ?

In The Airport

Sitting here at the Minnesota airport, I’ve heard so many people talking “management”. Looks like everyone is a tech manager….

Oops, they’ve just called our plane for boarding I’ll finish the thought tonight (probably).

News

For the past 2 or 3 days the western media has been satisfying their macabre obsession with a murder case of a little girl. The news that a possible suspect is arrested has been plastered all over newspapers, and TV. It turns out today that the confessions they got from the guy seem very contradictory with facts. No matter, the brave western media marches on in search of truth. The little girl’s face is on all daily newspapers and everyone is searching for answers.

Meanwhile the death toll in Lebanon hits 1,300 and more than a third are children. Perhaps if the children in Lebanon all had Anglo-Saxon names, and were aspiring beauty queens we would see their photos on the dailies here in the west.

Another Month

Another month and the humans have managed to yet again kill each other. There’s nothing new in that, but this time I think I’m seeing more and more how the little people are helpless in fighting injustices committed against them. No one gives a damn. And it’s these kinds of events that trigger in people the need to have some divine power to exist. When the oppressed can’t have justice, that’s when they wish for other-worldly justice to be delivered to their oppressors.

A post

I finally decided to post something here. Maybe just to confirm to myself that I’m still interested in keeping a weblog, but all I could muster was a meagre change to the personal section and as you can see, even that’s not much!

I should probably change my resume at some point too, but given my current market value that might not be such a good idea!

Chill Winston!

Muskoka

Life is moving at a slow pace, in fact it’s crawling! I’ve planned it this way, and I’m loving it. I’m spending a week in Muskoka and have decided to an absolute minimum. Eat, sleep, relax. would be the perfect representation of what I’ve done. I saw that on a T-shirt in one of the stores here. I’ve come to believe that we humnas have made life too complex for our own good. Going to work, coming home to be with your family, and then having converstations with your friends and neighbours over a few pints of beer is what it should be like. But there are so many added layers of abstraction added on top of this that we barely get to this anymore. I normally spend about 1.5 hours in traffic during my commute to and from work. Add to that what the car needs to keep running (yes, that black gold which costs about $1.5 these days), and the fatigue of that commute and your day is done….

There’s much to complain about as usual, but I’m in a good mood and don’t have time for it. Enjoy this picutre of Muskoka and have fun!
